A native of Los Angeles, Mike earned his B.A. in Business Administration – Accounting from California State University Northridge. He moved into public accounting where he planned, supervised, reviewed audits and engagements for general manufacturers, retailers, professional corporations and real estate developers. In 1980, Mike assumed an accounting manager role and the practice expanded its client list to include general contractors and subcontractors. This proved fortuitous for him as he became intrigued with the systems and controls necessary to maintain information flow within these business models.
As it so happens, one of Mike’s client’s was the burgeoning General Contractor: Cannon Constructors. The rapport he established with the Principals led him to the role of Chief Financial Officer for Cannon in 1985. He set about incorporating his predilection for systems and information flow within the highly demanding and often varied client requirements that is the modern day contracting business. From the onset, Mike saw the benefits of uniformed database management of the documents that form the backbone of contracting. He established a proprietary software system that coordinates all documents within a (now cloud-based) database. In 1999, Mike was named a Principal of Cannon Constructors.
Today, Mike is directly responsible for all financial aspects and reporting requirements, including budgeting and cash flow management. He maintains Cannon’s banking, insurance and bonding relationships. He conducts regular job cost reviews, and oversees staff accounting and office staff functions. Procedures and oversight established by him include all contract, subcontract and material procurements. His zest for providing the contractually required paper-flow is matched by his desire to be flexible to the Client’s needs.
Regularly called upon for his knowledge and expertise, Mike is actively engaged with field personnel and maintains longstanding Client relationships. Adaptive and accommodating, Mike is adept at working with circumstances that require creativity in order to achieve the Client’s goals. His professional affiliations include: current C.P.A. designation, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, California Society of Certified Public Accountants, and Construction Financial Management Association.
